This is my latest "Chimera" instrument, even the
part about being a "fire-breathing monster"! But; instead of two or
more animal parts, this one blends iconic guitar brand design elements.
It's a "Fender" as viewed from above, and a "Gibson" when viewed from the
side, along with the combination of pickups, bridge, and the tilted
neck-joint plus the tipped back headstock.
This "Tele" is equiped with Symore Duncan
humbuckers with individual series / parallel mini switches, allowing you
to choose the classic fat and warm tone, or a cleaner and more shimering
sound approaching that of single coils. The pickup
selector switch is a Gibson style three-way toogle, plus one volume and
tone.
The body construction includes a bookmatched Persian Walnut
drop-top and Butternut back (Butternut is also a true walnut species, but
very light weight). Both the top and back were routed out to provide
substantial chambers, but retaining a beam down the center.
The body also includes a carved arm rest and belly cut. The
transition to the neck joint is carved into a highly ergonomic heel
allowing very easy access to even the last frets. The neck is a
laminate of three different Walnut species; Black Walnut, Butternut,
Peruvian Walnut. These laminates provide improved long term
stability, clear tone, plus they look great. The head cap is a
laminate of more Persian Walnut cut from the same board as the top of the
body. The fret board is highly figured flame Hard Maple.
